Kanye West feat. KiD CuDi - Welcome to Heartbreak
Do not attempt to fix your monitor! Leave it to Ye to try something fresh and new for his videos letting his artist direction persist. Kanye drops his latest video out of nowhere with the help of newcomer KiD CuDi. According to Wikipedia, the next single was "See You In My Nightmares", but "Welcome To Heartbreak" proved it wrong. This is one of my favorite joints off 808's & Heartbreak, and I thought it would be the ideal intro for the album. Anyways, check the video out. Its insane!
T.I. feat. Justin Timberlake - Dead and Gone
Clifford drops the seventh single off of Paper Trail, making it the fifth video from the platinum album! The JT assisted joint is an ode to people he's lost in the past, and the rebirth of T.I.. T.I. also has a current MTV show "Road to Redemption" which showcases Tip's last days before he does his year bid next month. Make sure you check the video out!

Polls is Talkin': NextUp - Drake

On my latest poll I asked Hip Hop AD readers who's they feel is the next best thing. While the results were all close, Canadian MC Drake was the winner. You may have seen him on the hit high school show Degrassi where he plays the crippled ball player Jimmy. He has now ventured into music being a new rapper/singer signed to Interscope under the name Drake. He is also apart of Lil' Wayne's entourage Young Money. Being affiliated with Young Money granted Drake numerous Wayne collabo's and he is rumored to produce Drake's debut album Thank Me Later. Drake being signed to Interscope, radio-friendly joints, and his Lil Wayne affiliation gives him the potential to be the next big thing.

NextUp: KiD CuDi

Meet KiD CuDi, a fresh, innovative artist who hails from Cleveland. His undergound track "Day N Nite" has created buzz for him over the past couple of months, and his mixtape A Kid Named Cudi (download link inside) landed him a deal with Good Music and two a features on Kanye West's 808's & Heartbreak LP.
Since '07 there has been a wave of fresh new emcee's emerging onto the hip hop scene. Some of those names include, The Cool Kids, U-N-I, Charles Hamilton, and more. The emergence of these new artists even received recognition from XXL Magazine in this month's issue. Newcomers Wale, Asher Roth, and Ace Hood graced the cover, but one artist who stands out is Cleveland rapper KiD CuDi.
Two months ago, I attended the MTV VMA's. During the show, there were short segments with artists performing with Travis Barker on the drums and DJ AM on the 1's and 2's. I heard this unknown artist performing and me being ignorant I only half listened but later found out it was a new dude named KiD CuDi. Shortly after, I hear this track that sounds fresh and new. I had to use my app from my iPhone to let me know what song it was. The result was KiD CuDi's "Day N Night", therefore I had to see if he had any other material as dope as that single.
It turns out I'm not the only person feeling "Day N Night". Jim Jones made his own version of "Day N Night" emulating the rap/sung flow that Cudi delivers on the track.
Kid Cudi - Day N Night
Kid Cudi's mixtape presented by 10Deep, A Kid Named Cudi caught the attention of Kanye West which resulted in his signing to GOOD Music. Listening to Cudi's mixtape it's easy to see that he will be a perfect fit for the label. While some newcomers spend years trying to find themselves musically, Cudi seems to be comfortable with who he is as an artist. On "Embrace the Martian", he request the respect and acceptance from listeners but uses an extraterrestrial reference. Cudi expresses his confidence in being unique on "Save my Soul" where he raps over Gnarls Barkley's "Who's Gonna Save My Soul". The young mc spits "I don't even hear what other niggaz talkin' bout, call me a hipster/as long as you're a listener"
Listening to A Kid Named Cudi, you can grasp what his musical influences are. The Outkast influence is obvious on "Down & Out" and "Whenever" where he flows nicely over two Kast instrumentals. Kid Cudi also puts his own twist to Neptunes "Spaz" on "Cudi Spazzin'" and can even be heard spitting over a Dilla beat on "Cudi Put".
Not only does he spit, he also sings on tracks like "50 Ways to Make a Record", "Heaven at Nite" and "Man on the Moon". With a wide range of sounds on his mixtape, Kid Cudi manages to stay distinctive and balanced with the overall music vibe. Check out his mixtape below and post a line or two on your thoughts.

Dope or Nope 11/03- Another 808 Track
Kanye West feat. KiD CuDi - Anyway
This is the fifth joint to leak off the 808's & Heartbreak album by Mr. West. I heard that he was salty about the leak of Robocop which was unfinished. I say he push the album up to stop tracks from leaking on a weekly basis. I'm not listening to this joint because I don't want to spoil the album (gotta keep it exclusive). With tracks leaking off the album, or you more hyped or less?

Old Generation Vs. New Generation
XXL's December issue features Hip Hop's new generation. There are three different covers including newcomers Charles Hamilton, Wale, Asher Roth, B.O.B., and many more.

This cover is reminiscent to The Source's outstanding June 1998 cover that featured raps new generation at the time. The cover was a three page fold out, and unfortunately I can only find the first page of it.
Other artists that made the cover were: Big Pun, Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz, Cam'Ron, Noreaga, and Canibus. Let's evaluate where these artists are now...Click the full story to continue reading.
Big Pun - Big Pun dropped arguably an classic lyrical LP, and followed up with a solid sophomore album. He also brought out him and Fat Joe's crew the Terror Squad. Unfortunately, Big Pun passed away of a heart attack in February 2000. R.I.P Big Punisher.
Cam'Ron - Received recognition from his second single "Horse and Carriage" which featured fellow Harlem native Ma$e. Cam then went on to form The Diplomats, which launched the careers of Juelz Santana, Jim Jones, JR Writer, and many more. Cam is preparing his upcoming album Crime Pays, which is now set to drop in 2009.
Noreaga - Noreaga made a name for himself in the duo Capone-n-Noreaga, but while Capone was locked up, Noreaga (who changed his name to N.O.R.E.) had to hold it down on his own for the two. He dropped three solo albums, signed to Def Jam, and when Capone was free, they reunited to create the slept on Reunion album. Shortly after, Nore went reggaeton for a minute, and is rumored to be hard at work on his new album coming soon.
Canibus - Lyrical mastermind Canibus emerged in the 90's and gained attention for his advanced wordplay and beef with LL (click here if to find out why). The beef spawned the popular diss track "Second Round K.O." which featured Mike Tyson. His debut LP Can-I-Bus, didn't do as well as expected, but Canibus went on to drop numerous underground LP's afterwards.
Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz - One of the most popular 90's hits was "Deja Vu" by this uptown duo. Lord Tariq & Peter Gunz dropped their album, but it turned out to be a flop for the two. Ironically, Peter Gunz' son Cory Gunz graces the cover of this decades next generation. Like father, like son.
DMX - The most successful out of the new generation cover, DMX dropped a classic album It's Dark and Hell is Hot. Filled with hardcore street anthems and devilsh tracks, DMX's distinctive voice and style was like non ever heard. He dropped numerous successful albums, had leading roles in films, and introduced the world to Ruff Ryders. DMX also built a criminal record for drug possession and many other bizarre activities. He plans on releasing his two new albums on the same day, one titled "Walk With Me Now" and the other "You'll Fly With Me Later".
Kurupt - Westcoast heavyweight was one half of the popular duo Tha Dogg Pound. Kurupt then made plenty of solo albums, with his debut being Kuruption, a two disc set that was both East and West coast themed. His feud with East coast MC's DMX and Ja Rule over Foxy Brown (his girl at the time) created a buzz for his sophomore solo disk "Streetz is a Mutha". Kurupt is still working with Daz Dillinger, but is also working on project with DJ Quik, DJ Premeir, and Pete Rock.
Silkk The Shocker - In the mid to early 2000's, No Limit Records were a huge stable of Southern artists. Some of their biggest talents were Master P, Mystikal, C-Murder, Snoop Dogg, and Silkk The Shocker. Being Master P's younger brother, P kept it in the family by signing his sibling. Silkk went on to release five solo albums, with a sixth one in the works. Some of Silkk's biggest hits were "It Ain't My Fault", "We Like Dem Girls", and "That's Cool" with Trina.
