Young Jeezy - Welcome Back
Okay, so The Recession made me a Jeezy fan. Even before he had some solid joints, but I never really fucked with him like that (pause). Here's his latest video for "Welcome Back" which is concert footage and clips. It was the ideal way to kick off an album and one of my favorite tracks off his latest.

Dope or Nope 1/30: My President is Black Redux
Young Jeezy feat. Jay-z - My President is Black (Remix)
Last week after Barack's inauguration, Jay-z spat over the "My President is Black" instrumental labeling it the DC-Mix. This time around, Jeezy remixes the historical track and adds a new verse specifically for Bill 'O Reilly and Dennis Miller.
Last week during Washington's festivities, Jay and Jeezy celebrated the entrance of Barack and the exit of Bush. Hip Hop's biggest fan Bill O'Reilly and Dennis Miller had this to say:
Moving right along...

Seeing is Believing 1/26: New Ron Browz, Cool Kids, Cube, & More Vids!
On today's vids...
Ron Browz "Jumps Out the Window", The Cool Kids drop "Pennies", Ice Cube and Jeezy "Got They Locs On", B.o.B. sees "Lonely People" and Lil Wayne makes Kat De Luna Feel "Unstoppable",
Ron Browz - Jumping Out the Window
The Ether Boy (he's responsible for producing the classic "Ether" by Nas) drops his first solo track after appearing on two of '08's biggest club bangers "Pop Champagne" and "Arab Money". He is currently preparing his solo album with the same title as the single scheduled to be released March 17th...The autotune strikes again.
Cool Kids - Pennies
The retro duo drops their first single "Pennies" off their upcoming When Fish Ride Bicycles album. No word on a release date, just keep ya ears open.
Kat De Luna feat. Lil Wayne - Unstoppable
Lil Wayne hops on this track with another glimpse at his rockstar persona.
Ice Cube feat. Young Jeezy - Got My Locs On
Cube hooks up with Jeezy for the fourth single off his current album Raw Footage which is in stores now.
B.o.B. - Lonely People
I don't listen to B.o.B. too much, but I thought this video was interesting. B.o.B. tells a story of loners while the "lonely people" in the background proceed to get it poppin. His debut album The Adventures of B.o.B. drops this year.

The impressive verse Jay delivered hit the net yesterday in live video format, but the official song is here! Peep the video below, and the full story for the rest. Drop a line or two about who went in more, Jay or Nas.

Seeing is Believing 1/16: New Jeezy, Slim Thug, Q-Tip, and more vids!
On today's vids...
Young Jeezy & Nas's "President is Black", Q-Tip "boogies" with Amanda Diva, Slim Thug "Runs", and B.o.B. will "be in the sky".
Hit up the full story to peep em!
Young Jeezy feat. Nas - My President
I can't think of a better time for this video to be released with Barack's historical inauguration this Tuesday. This is the fifth video off of The Recession, and I'm honored to see life imitate art with this track.
Q-Tip feat. Amanda Diva - Manwomanboogie
Q-Tip releases a video the Amanda Diva featured joint off The Renaissance. This is my least favorite on the album, but it's good to see Q-Tip doing his thing.
Slim Thug feat. Yelawolf - I Run
Slim Thug brings you his first single off his upcoming Boss of All Bosses album. Producer Jim Jonsin (produced "Lollipop", "Whatever You Like") laces Slim Thug on the production, with on the hook sampling a Flock of Seagulls 80's hit "I Run (So Far Away)". Slim Thug's newest LP is slated to be released March 24th.
B.O.B. - I'll Be In The Sky
Newcomer B.o.B. releases his second video, the comic-book inspired "I'll Be In The Sky". The 20 year old rapper/singer/producer is signed to T.I.'s Grand Hustle imprint, and will release his debut album Adventures of B.o.B. in the near future. B.o.B. also appeared on XXL's class of '09 issue.

My Top 10 Singles of 2008

Typically music artists select their best work as singles to help promote their albums. Seeing that singles are usually meant to blow, lets recap some of the hottest singles of the year. Hit up the full story to peep my 10 favorite singles of 2008.
10. The Game feat. Lil Wayne - My Life
The Game linked up with his fellow blood brother Lil' Wayne for his third single off of L.A.X.. While most tracks that were featuring Wayne included a verse, The Game used Lil Wayne to sing on the hook. The Game drops powerful lines about life and death over a mellow Cool-n-Dre produced track.
9. Jay-z - Jockin' Jay-z
Eventhough the Blueprint III didn't see the light of day this year, Jockin' Jay-z was still a solid song from Hov. While it did receive some criticism and it didn't take off like some of Jay's past singles, it still served its purpose of keeping Jigga active and letting listeners know that the Blueprint III is coming. Blueprint 3 is now scheduled for a February 2009 release.
8. Ron Browz feat. Jim Jones & Juelz Santana - Pop Champagne
"Pop Champagne's" late release doesn't prevent it from making it to the top singles list. The single came through just in time to heat up the clubs this cold Winter. Originally the song belonged to Ron Browz, but it's now Jim Jones song featuring Ron Browz and Juelz. The "Ether Boy" also produced and appears on Busta Rhymes' "Arab Money", N.O.R.E.'s "Rotate", and Fat Joe's latest single.
7. Young Jeezy feat. Kanye West - Put On
Young Jeezy dropped the first single for his third album The Recession with a random, but impressive auto-tuned Kanye feature. The city anthem gained a huge buzz resulting in numerous artists freestyling over it and a Jay-z featured remix.
6. Q-Tip - Gettin' Up
Q-Tip dropped The Renaissance, his first album in almost ten years. The first single "Gettin' Up", stuck to the traditional Tribe Called Quest rhythm with Q-Tip rapping over a melodic, piano instrumental. While it didn't blow up like the club banger "Vivrant Thing", Tip released one of the best singles of '08.
5. Rick Ross feat. T-Pain - The Boss
T-Pain was featured on various tracks this year, and one of the most notable appearances was "The Boss".Rick Ross started 2008 off right with his first single off of Trilla, where him and T-Pain rip an insane JR Rotem instrumental.
4. Kanye West - Heartless
When Kanye announced his album will be complete auto-tune and feature little to no rapping, fans pondered if quality will be as good as Mr. West's prior work. When "Love Lockdown" released, reviews were mixed, but what saved it was the follow up single, "Heartless". The song stuck to the albums love theme, but still managed to be radio friendly. Not to mention, the video was dope as hell.
3. Gnarls Barkley - Who's Gonna Save My Soul
The rapper/producer duo Gnarls Barkley's third single "Who's Gonna Save My Soul" was indeed dope. The Grammy nominated music video was from left-field, but interestingly good. The Roots drummer ?uestlove premiered this track, and since then has been used by Jay Electronica & Kid Cudi. I would love to hear Nas or Scarface rap over this. If you haven't heard The Odd Couple, it's definitely worth the listen.
2. T.I. feat. Jay-z, Kanye West, & Lil Wayne - Swagger Like Us
Four of hip hop's heavyweights collaborated on the massive Swagga Like Us. With the late success of "Paper Planes" by M.I.A., Kanye sampled one of her lines for the hook of SLU. When Swagger Like Us first made it's way to the net, many people thought it was a rumored track, but turned out to be an official song. The song appears on T.I.'s Paper Trail, and since "Jockin' Jay-z" wasn't jocked like it was supposed to be, it led to Jay-z labeling "Swagger Like Us" as his first single. For this song to not have a video, it was highly popular and received heavy radio play.
1. Lil Wayne - A Milli
Easily one of the most memorable songs of 2008. Love him or hate him, it was Wayne's year. "A Milli" had to be one of the most rapped over instrumentals of this year. As soon as the song started catching on, the industry began to rape the beat. Jay-z, Jadakiss, Bow Wow, and even R&B'ers Chris Brown and Ne-Yo got on the repetitive instrumental. In the end, Wayne did the beat justice making it one of the best songs on Tha Carter III and 2008.
Honorable Mentions:
Common - Universal Mind Control
Estelle feat. Kanye West - American Boy
The Roots - Get Busy
Busta Rhymes - Arab Money
Nas - Hero
Charles Hamilton - Brooklyn Girls

Seeing is Believing: My Top 10 Videos of 2008

While 2008 is coming to an end, it's only right that I post my favorite music videos of the year. At a time where music video's are repetitive and cliched, the artistic and original videos deserve recognition. Hit up the full story to peep my 10 favorite videos of the year and more! There's more top ten lists to come!
10. U-N-I - Beautiful Day
There's nothing like watching a video filmed in area's you're familiar with. U-N-I cruises through Inglewood (my current stomping grounds), with an ill slow motion effect making it the first entry on my favorite videos of 2008. Very nice track by the way.
9. Young Jeezy - Crazy World
The best way to summarize this video is chaotic. The song title and music video theme compliment each other fairly well. Jeezy shows his interpretation of how crazy the world is going to become if we dont fix economic issues and unfair laws. "Crazy World" is Jeezy's third video off of his semi-political album The Recession.
8. Nas - Ya'll My Niggas
Nas drops a powerful video for one of my favorite tracks off his Untitled album. Nas doesn't appear in the video but instead it features a young kid rapping the lyrics to the track. As I said in the tenth entry of my countdown, it's always a good look seeing places you're familiar with in music videos. A majority of the video was shot on Crenshaw blvd. out here in Los Angeles, which is where I grew up. Nas also added commentary from hip hop's rival, Bill O'Reilly, followed up with a special message from Esco.
7. T-Pain feat. Lil Wayne - Can't Believe It
T-Pain linked up with 2008's hardest working artist, Lil Wayne for his first single off Thr33 Ringz. To brand Thr33 Ringz as a circus-themed album, Pain applied an amusement park concept to "Can't Believe It". Filled with clowns, coasters, and dope effects, T-Pain provides visuals for the lyrics in the song and album theme. "Can't Believe It" isn't only a clean video, it also makes T-Pain one of the most recognizable artists today with his signature top hat that appeared in many of this years videos.
6. Erykah Badu - Honey
Erykah Badu gives her take on classic album covers from Illmatic, to Paid In Full, to De La Soul's Three Feet High and Rising. She also does her imitation of Andre 3000's memorable one-man band video, "Hey Ya". The clever renditions backed up by 9th Wonder's smooth production makes "Honey" one of the most fun videos of the year.
5. Common - Universal Mind Control
Hype Williams does it again with his Common collab for "Universal Mind Control". "UMC"'s robotic, electronic sound makes it obvious that the video would match the style of the track. Common links up with a BBC Robot to deliver one of the most innovative videos of 2008.
4. Kanye West - Flashing Lights
Kanye's third single off Graduation was none other than "Flashing Lights" (one of my favorite tracks from the album), and the unexpected video raised eyebrows and generated a lot of hype over the net. While the video received mixed reviews, I thought it was simple and changed peoples interpretation of the song. Aside from giving the song a new meaning, it also put the busty Rita G on the map. Watching her strip down makes the video well worth an entry on this top 10 list.
There were two other versions of this video that were nice as well and supposedly all three videos are connected.
3. N.E.R.D. feat. Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, & Pusha T - Everyone Nose (Remix)
"Everyone Nose (Remix)" was instantly one of my favorite videos of all time. I'm a huge fan of Hype William's work and he continues to push the envelope in hip hop music videos. Who would've thought you can mix a 80's video game/space theme video with a song about doing lines? I'm not going to do much discussion with this one, I'll let the video do the talking. On a side note, Pharell's shades are strangely dope.
2. Gnarls Barkley - Going On
The number two spot goes to the innovative and eccentric Gnarls Barkley. Gnarls Barkley has a reputation for delivering standout videos, and they continue to be creative with the video for "Going On". Gnarls Barkley brought the song to life with Jamaicans celebrating their discovery of a new dimension, but in the end the main character doesn't want to be followed there.
1. Kanye West - Heartless
My number one pick goes to Heartless. For one, I dig animated videos, and I also feel the video's artistic appeal. Honestly I didn't like Heartless instantly, but the video raised my appreciation. Not to mention it's my Mom's favorite song and video. Originally the video was recorded and later drawn by 65 animators in Hong Kong. The video was also inspired by an flick called "American Pop". I would love to peep the live version of this joint!
Honorable Mentions:
Santogold - LES Artistes
Gnarls Barkley - Who's Going To Save My Soul
Missy Elliott - Ching-a-Ling
Busta Rhymes - Don't Touch Me
Q-Tip - Gettin' Up
Common & Pharrell - Announcement

Tyga - Saying This
The lil dude is steppin' it up, this is far better than Coconut Juice. No hate here though.

Dope or Nope 11/21 - New Young Buck
Young Buck feat. Young Jeezy - I Got It
Some new shit from Buck since his departure from the Unit. His new album Rehab is due out this January. If his post G-unit career is anything like The Game's, then this will prove that life after the Unit doesn't equal irrelevance.

Seeing is Believing 11/17: New Jeezy, Snoop, Jadakiss, & Rihanna Vids!
On today's edition of SiB:
Jeezy shows his idea of a "Crazy World", Alchemist mixes Snoop, 1/3 of the Lox, and 1/2 of Clipse for his latest experiment, Justin Timberlake joins Rihanna in Rehab, Jay-z & Coldplay get "Lost", and Gym Class Heroes are "Guilty as Charged".
Young Jeezy - Crazy World
One of my favorite joints off The Recession. The video lives up to the track title, giving it an Armageddon vibe.
Alchemist feat. Snoop, Jadakiss, & Pusha T - Lose Your Life
"Lose Your Life" is featured on Alchemists' digital EP The Alchemist's Cookbook which drops tomorrow. One of Hip Hop's most underrated producers hooks up with Snoop, Jada & Pusha T for this banger. Animated vids are dope by default.
Gym Class Heroes feat. Estelle - Guilty As Charged
Gym Class Heroes collab with Estelle for this blaxploitation inspired video off The Quilt. The Quilt is in stores now!
Rihanna feat. Justin Timberlake - Rehab
Another hit off Rihanna's double platinum Good Girl Gone Bad. This joint features Justin Timberlake and production by Timbaland. I swear Rihanna gets better with time.
Coldplay - Lost+ feat. Jay-z
Believe it or not, I fucks with Coldplay. If you haven't heard the Jay/Coldplay Mashup Viva La Hova, click here to get it.

Seeing is Believing 10/30: New Lil Wayne, T-Pain & Akon Vids!
Pardon my absence yesterday and pretty much all day today. I've been crazy busy on my corporate grind. I'm back with some new vids from Weezy, T-Pain & Dj Khaled, and Akon which features Jeezy and Wayne.
Lil Wayne feat. Bobby Valentino - Mrs. Officer/Comfortable
New single off the double platinum Carter III. Instead of the appearance from Kidd Kidd on "Mrs. Officer", the video switches to the Babyface assisted "Comfortable". Recently Wayne decided to re-release Tha Carter III with all new material, but there is no word on when it will be released.
T-Pain & DJ Khaled - Karaoke
Third video for Pain's Thr33 Ringz album. From what I've heard so far the joints are solid. This video features T-Pain at a Karaoke filled with old heads, and Khaled spazzin' acting a fool. Thr33 Ringz will be in stores November 11th.
Akon feat. Young Jeezy & Lil Wayne - I'm So Paid
First single off Akon's upcoming Freedom album. "I'm So Paid" features Jeezy and Lil Wayne's hundredth feature. Freedom drops November 25th, a week after fellow Konvict Muzik labelmate T-Pain.

Album Review: Young Jeezy - The Recession

In 2005, Young Jeezy was introduced to the world via Def Jam records. His breakthrough album "Thug Motivation 101" had rap fans curious to see what happens after "And Then What", had them vibing to "Soul Survivor", and eventually made them "Go Crazy"; resulting in over 1.7 million units sold. While Thug Motivation was Jeezy's first album, he branded himself as a "real street nigga" with his raps about drug trafficking, the trap, and his snowman logo, where he derived his alias. After the success of his first album, Jeezy released his second album "The Inspiration" which achieved platinum status as well. While the second album shared the same content as the first, Young Jeezy decided to take a different approach with his latest effort.
3.5/5
Young Jeezy has a rep for glorifying the drug dealer lifestyle and sharing his tales of a hustler through his music. Surprisingly, Jeezy decided to increase his content by discussing politics, laws, and economical issues, thus the name of the album "The Recession". The album starts with "The Recession Intro", an outstanding synth and bass-heavy beat provided by DJ Toomp which sets the albums tone. The intro features audio of news coverage on the blatant recession that the United States is experiencing with Jeezy giving hope through it all.
As most later albums that artists release, there's the essential track that marks the return of the artist. On "The Recession", Jeezy has "Welcome Back", a banging track which welcomes Jeezy back from a two year hiatus. On "Crazy World", Young Jeezy big up's presidential candidate Barack Obama, then goes in on the government, President Bush and crooked laws. Jeezy raps "Real G shit, well that's really unheard of/when you get more time for selling dope than murder...murder", the content and production make "Crazy World" easily one of the best songs on the album. "What They Want", a track that defines Young Jeezy's self-proclaimed motivational speaker title, Jeezy raps "They know just what they want/ They know just what they gettin'/They ask me what I'm doing, I tell 'em teachin' for a living/...And I can show you how to make a mill right now".
The album is off to a very good start, but towards the middle the overall sound becomes repetitive. The production typically contains heavy-bass, high hats, 808 kicks, and/or claps, with Young Jeezy's laid back delivery and signature ad libs. On the other hand, there are a couple of songs where the production is different from the majority of the album. On "Circulate", producer Don Cannon provides his usual one instrumental per Jeezy album. The soul-like instrumental contains a vocal sample for the hook with Jeezy using his ad libs to compliment the sample. It is then followed by "Word Play", another distinctive beat produced by Justice League. Jeezy explains his differences from typical hip hop artists stating "You niggas want word play/But I'm about bird play".
Guest appearances are limited on "The Recession". The lead single features Kanye West, while the rest of the album features hooks by Trey Songz, Anthony Hamilton, a verse by Lil Boosie, and a surprising appearance by Nas. In 2006, Young Jeezy questioned Nas' street credibility after showing offense to Nas' album title "Hip Hop is Dead". The two reconciled their differences on their ode to Barack Obama titled "My President", where Nas delivers an impressive verse.
In conclusion, The Recession is an above average album. Young Jeezy has elevated his lyrical ability and expanded his content, yet the overall music still sounds similar to his two previous albums. The album is definitely worth listening to and it is easily favorable with over a handful of bangers.
To Sum It Up In One Word: Semi-Substantial

Dope or Nope 8/25: More Jeezy & 88 Keys feat. Kanye West
Young Jeezy - Circulate
Okay, so I'm a fan now. This "Circulate" joint is hot and it has a smooth sampled beat provided by Don Cannon (the same producer who brought you "Go Crazy"). About half of the album has leaked and so far so good. The Recession will leak soon, and it will be in stores next Tuesday.
88 Keys feat. Kanye West - Stay Up! (Viagra)

If you're a Kanye fan like myself then you would definitely remember this track from last summer's "Cant Tell Me Nothin' Mixtape". The mixtape only had the first verse with Kanye, but the full version of the 88 Keys joint finally hit the net. Check the link below.

Dope or Nope 8/19: New Jeezy feat. Nas!
Young Jeezy feat. Nas - My President is Black
In 2006 when Nas announced his album title "Hip Hop is Dead", it caused controversy in the rap game. Artists such as Dem Franchise Boyz, T.I., and others expressed their thoughts about the title. One artists who did it publicly on a radio station in Philly was Young Jeezy, who heavily criticized Nas' street credibility and eventually walked off the radio station furiously. About two years later, Jeezy takes a more political approach with his latest LP and reconciled his differences with Nas to bring a conscious record titled "My President is Black". Young Jeezy spoke to MTV about the track about how Nas went in on it, and dude was right. Check the link below. The Recession in stores Sept. 2nd.
