On Today's Vids...
Lil Wayne rocks out with the "Prom Queen" and Rick Ross gets "Magnificent"
Hit the full story to peep the vids!
Lil Wayne - Prom Queen
Lil Wayne makes his rockstar status official with his first single off his upcoming Rock project Rebirth. The album was rumored to have been shelved but it is still being released on May 19th. The video reminds me of the "All About the Benjamin's (Rock Remix)" with the high school theme meshed with a Rock/Hip Hop track. After hearing this track for over a month, I still have mixed feelings about it. I love the instruments, but I'm not feeling the vocals too much.
Rick Ross feat. John Legend - Magnificent
Rick Ross' official first single "Magnificent" premiered today via WorldStarHipHop. Ross takes us to a horse race with his latest collabo with John Legend. The upscale video compliments the smooth track appearing on his forthcoming Deeper Than Rap album due out April 21.

Tha Rebirth of Lil' Wayne: Interviews, Videos, and Tracks

Lil' Wayne is hands down the hardest working rapper out right now. Between preparing his upcoming rock album Rebirth, working with Young Money, the T-Wayne project, appearing on everyone's tracks, and performing, this dude does not sleep. Hit up the full story to see what's going on in Wayne's world. Featuring tracks off Tha Rebirth, the first single off the forthcoming Young Money album, an ill posse track with Q-Tip, and many more!

Prom Queen - First single off the upcoming rock album Rebirth.
Hot Revolver - Another track off Rebirth
Young Money - Every Girl - Its about time an artist brings out a crew. Reminiscent to Biggie introducing Junior Mafia to the world, Wayne is gearing up for his Young Money crews release.
Lil Wayne & Juelz Santana - Rap Cemetery
Lil Wayne & Juelz Santana - Rock Star
Lil Wayne feat. Gudda Gudda - New Orleans Maniac
Lil Wayne feat. Pharrell - Yes!
Q-Tip feat. Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes, and Raekwon - Renaissance Rap (Remix) (dope) - The Renaissance was easily one of my favorite albums of '08. This time Tip collabs with Lil Wayne, Busta, and The Chef as the spit over the bonus cut after "Move".

Kat De Luna feat. Lil Wayne - Unstoppable
Interview
Lil Wayne sits down with CBS's Katie Couric for what looks like a very interesting interview. From this snippet below, you should expect some interesting quotes from Weezy. Please let this not be another "Cam on 60 Minutes" interview.

Seeing is Believing 1/26: New Ron Browz, Cool Kids, Cube, & More Vids!
On today's vids...
Ron Browz "Jumps Out the Window", The Cool Kids drop "Pennies", Ice Cube and Jeezy "Got They Locs On", B.o.B. sees "Lonely People" and Lil Wayne makes Kat De Luna Feel "Unstoppable",
Ron Browz - Jumping Out the Window
The Ether Boy (he's responsible for producing the classic "Ether" by Nas) drops his first solo track after appearing on two of '08's biggest club bangers "Pop Champagne" and "Arab Money". He is currently preparing his solo album with the same title as the single scheduled to be released March 17th...The autotune strikes again.
Cool Kids - Pennies
The retro duo drops their first single "Pennies" off their upcoming When Fish Ride Bicycles album. No word on a release date, just keep ya ears open.
Kat De Luna feat. Lil Wayne - Unstoppable
Lil Wayne hops on this track with another glimpse at his rockstar persona.
Ice Cube feat. Young Jeezy - Got My Locs On
Cube hooks up with Jeezy for the fourth single off his current album Raw Footage which is in stores now.
B.o.B. - Lonely People
I don't listen to B.o.B. too much, but I thought this video was interesting. B.o.B. tells a story of loners while the "lonely people" in the background proceed to get it poppin. His debut album The Adventures of B.o.B. drops this year.

Dope or Nope 1/25: You're Now Rockin' Wit The Best...Rapper Alive
Lil Wayne - Prom Queen
It appears that Lil Wayne's "Rock" album is official. Earlier this week Tha Rebirth received a release date of April 7th, and now the first single is here. "Prom Queen" is the first single which sounds completely different from previous singles that Wayne's released. Click the full story to continue reading.
The question is, are you feelin it? Honestly, it'll have to grow on me. As of right now I'm feelin the instrumentation but the abusive autotune sound isn't doing it for me. I do give it up to Wayne for stepping into a new realm of music. Comparing his Block is Hot days to now, you can definitely see his progression not only as a rapper but as an artist.
On a side note, they need to throw this joint on Rockband. That'll be excellent marketing for the project and add more to the dopeness of Rockband.

Polls Is Talkin': Album of the Year x My 5 Favorite Albums of '08

Happy New Years to all! Whatever you do tonight be safe. To bring '08 to an end, I'm posting what readers felt was the album of the year. Based off December's poll, the album of the year is...
Hit up the full story to peep the rest of the results and my top 5.
Poll Results:
1. Lil Wayne - Carter III - 17%
Tied with Kanye West - 808's & Heartbreak
Lil Wayne & Kanye west come in at number one of the polls. Ironically, the frequent collaborators had two entirely different expectations for their albums. Lil Wayne appeared on various tracks and made numerous mixtapes leading up to his highly anticipated album; Mr. West on the other hand, did his thing on features as well, but announced he's releasing an album two months before it's date. Although both artists first singles contributed to this year's autotune craze, the overall sounds of these albums were complete opposites. Carter III is this year's highest selling hip hop album, and 808's & Heartbreaks is officially platinum in over a month.
2. Other - 14%
While the poll consisted of over ten popular albums of 2008, there were other candidates that weren't listed. Therefore the "other" answer was available for those who chose otherwise. Here's nine other slept-on joints that potentially could've been the album of the year.
3. T.I. - Paper Trail - 11%
Tied with: Nas - Untitled
Nas' controversial Untitled album (originally titled Nigger) is tied with T.I. whose no stranger to controversy. While this year wasn't a good start for T.I. with his weapons charge and parole violation, Paper Trail turned out to be a success, and is still selling till this day. While the bold Untitled album didn't feature many radio friendly tracks, Nas' point with this album was to speak his mind and cover racial and political topics.
4. The Game - L.A.X. - 8%
Tied With: Q-Tip - The Renaissance
The last tie on the poll is the feature heavy L.A.X., and the jazzy Renaissance album from Q-Tip. Both were great albums, but had entirely different vibes. L.A.X. gave you a west coast feel and had guest appearances ranging from Ne-Yo to Ice Cube. The Renaissance stuck to the traditional A Tribe Called Quest sound, marking Q-Tip's comeback. The Renaissance received good reviews from critics and fans, but unfortunately it failed to reach gold status unlike L.A.X.
5. The Roots - Rising Down 5%
The Roots continue to deliver solid albums with their eighth effort Rising Down. The album was one of the more darker albums of 2008, but out shined a lot of the material that was released this year.
Runners Up:
Common - Universal Mind Control 2%
Ludacris - Theater of the Mind 2%
My Top 5 Albums of 2008:

My Top 10 Singles of 2008

Typically music artists select their best work as singles to help promote their albums. Seeing that singles are usually meant to blow, lets recap some of the hottest singles of the year. Hit up the full story to peep my 10 favorite singles of 2008.
10. The Game feat. Lil Wayne - My Life
The Game linked up with his fellow blood brother Lil' Wayne for his third single off of L.A.X.. While most tracks that were featuring Wayne included a verse, The Game used Lil Wayne to sing on the hook. The Game drops powerful lines about life and death over a mellow Cool-n-Dre produced track.
9. Jay-z - Jockin' Jay-z
Eventhough the Blueprint III didn't see the light of day this year, Jockin' Jay-z was still a solid song from Hov. While it did receive some criticism and it didn't take off like some of Jay's past singles, it still served its purpose of keeping Jigga active and letting listeners know that the Blueprint III is coming. Blueprint 3 is now scheduled for a February 2009 release.
8. Ron Browz feat. Jim Jones & Juelz Santana - Pop Champagne
"Pop Champagne's" late release doesn't prevent it from making it to the top singles list. The single came through just in time to heat up the clubs this cold Winter. Originally the song belonged to Ron Browz, but it's now Jim Jones song featuring Ron Browz and Juelz. The "Ether Boy" also produced and appears on Busta Rhymes' "Arab Money", N.O.R.E.'s "Rotate", and Fat Joe's latest single.
7. Young Jeezy feat. Kanye West - Put On
Young Jeezy dropped the first single for his third album The Recession with a random, but impressive auto-tuned Kanye feature. The city anthem gained a huge buzz resulting in numerous artists freestyling over it and a Jay-z featured remix.
6. Q-Tip - Gettin' Up
Q-Tip dropped The Renaissance, his first album in almost ten years. The first single "Gettin' Up", stuck to the traditional Tribe Called Quest rhythm with Q-Tip rapping over a melodic, piano instrumental. While it didn't blow up like the club banger "Vivrant Thing", Tip released one of the best singles of '08.
5. Rick Ross feat. T-Pain - The Boss
T-Pain was featured on various tracks this year, and one of the most notable appearances was "The Boss".Rick Ross started 2008 off right with his first single off of Trilla, where him and T-Pain rip an insane JR Rotem instrumental.
4. Kanye West - Heartless
When Kanye announced his album will be complete auto-tune and feature little to no rapping, fans pondered if quality will be as good as Mr. West's prior work. When "Love Lockdown" released, reviews were mixed, but what saved it was the follow up single, "Heartless". The song stuck to the albums love theme, but still managed to be radio friendly. Not to mention, the video was dope as hell.
3. Gnarls Barkley - Who's Gonna Save My Soul
The rapper/producer duo Gnarls Barkley's third single "Who's Gonna Save My Soul" was indeed dope. The Grammy nominated music video was from left-field, but interestingly good. The Roots drummer ?uestlove premiered this track, and since then has been used by Jay Electronica & Kid Cudi. I would love to hear Nas or Scarface rap over this. If you haven't heard The Odd Couple, it's definitely worth the listen.
2. T.I. feat. Jay-z, Kanye West, & Lil Wayne - Swagger Like Us
Four of hip hop's heavyweights collaborated on the massive Swagga Like Us. With the late success of "Paper Planes" by M.I.A., Kanye sampled one of her lines for the hook of SLU. When Swagger Like Us first made it's way to the net, many people thought it was a rumored track, but turned out to be an official song. The song appears on T.I.'s Paper Trail, and since "Jockin' Jay-z" wasn't jocked like it was supposed to be, it led to Jay-z labeling "Swagger Like Us" as his first single. For this song to not have a video, it was highly popular and received heavy radio play.
1. Lil Wayne - A Milli
Easily one of the most memorable songs of 2008. Love him or hate him, it was Wayne's year. "A Milli" had to be one of the most rapped over instrumentals of this year. As soon as the song started catching on, the industry began to rape the beat. Jay-z, Jadakiss, Bow Wow, and even R&B'ers Chris Brown and Ne-Yo got on the repetitive instrumental. In the end, Wayne did the beat justice making it one of the best songs on Tha Carter III and 2008.
Honorable Mentions:
Common - Universal Mind Control
Estelle feat. Kanye West - American Boy
The Roots - Get Busy
Busta Rhymes - Arab Money
Nas - Hero
Charles Hamilton - Brooklyn Girls

Seeing is Believing - 11/24: New Busta, Keri Hilson, Lil Wayne Vids and Kanye's Performance!
On today's edition of Seeing is Believing...
Busta's "got bass", Lil' Wayne "turns on" Keri Hilson, Slim & Fab talk "Good Lovin'", and Kanye's "Heartless" AMA Performance.
Click the full story below to peep the vids!
Busta Rhymes - I Got Bass
Busta gets back on his bullshit with his latest video "I Got Bass". He branded himself as a rap artist with the most unique and animated video's and he sticks to his reputation. Surprisingly, Bus-a-bus made a video for "I Got Bass" before "Arab Money". After several pushbacks, B.O.M.B. (Back on my Bullshit) will be out in March of 2009.
Kanye West - Heartless (AMA Performance)
Kanye and his tail peform "Heartless" at last night's American Music Awards. The creative 808's & Heartbreak is in stores today! Got 808's?
Keri Hilson feat. Lil' Wayne - Turnin Me On
The Lil Wayne assisted "Turnin Me On" is the third single off her upcoming album. Keri's debut album In a Perfect World will be in stores December 9th, and it features production by Polow Da Don (who produced this joint), Timbaland, Danja, and others.
Slim feat. Fabolous & Ryan Leslie - Good Lovin'
Slim's follow up single to his debut solo album Love's Crazy features production and an appearance from Ryan Leslie. Fabolous also drops by to deliver a verse on this joint.
Dope or Nope 11/24: ...Featuring The Game

Two new joints with guest spots from The Game. First, is the long awaited collabo with Lil' Wayne titled "Red Magic", and next is Joe Buddens first singe "The Future" featuring The Game. Click the full story below to get these joints!
Lil Wayne & The Game - Red Magic
The ones who brought you "My Life" off of L.A.X. are back with "Red Magic". Dope track off of Weezy's millionth mixtape Da Drought is Over Pt. 6.
Joe Budden feat. The Game - The Future
My boy Matt sent me this joint today. Seems like the latest trend in hip hop is for rivals to reconcile their differences and unite over wax. That's definitely a good look since the hip hop community is lacking unity and beef is a marketing scheme. This is the first single off of Buddens upcoming album Padded Room in stores February 24th.

Dope or Nope 11/20: S.L.U. vs. S.F.U.
Jim Jones feat. Lil Wayne, Twista, & Jay-z NOE
The long awaited response to "Swagger Like Us" is finally here. S.L.U. featured heavyweights T.I., Jay-z, Kanye West, & Lil' Wayne; "Swagger From Us" fails to live up to the lineup. "Swagger From Us" features Jimmy, his protege' Jay-z sound-a-like NOE, Twista, and ironically Lil' Wayne.
Another miss on this track is the mediocre production on the track, handled by Chink Santana. By unanimous decision, Swagger Like Us takes the cake for being the better "swagger" track, but am I the only one who's tired of this "swagger" epidemic?

Mixtape Madness: Lil Wayne - Dedication 3!
It's finally here!
It's been a while since we heard an official mixtape by Weezy. Since the release of Tha Carter III, Wayne was lowkey on the mixtape scene, but holding it down with the guest appearances.
Lil Wayne teams up with DJ Drama for the third installment of the Dedication series. Dedication 2 is some of Wayne's best material, and if Dedication 3 is anything like it it'll be another contribution to Wayne's reign.
Lil Wayne also plans re-released Tha Carter III, but not like a typical re-release. Instead of featuring a couple of new tracks and modifications, Wayne is going to do completely new material, and it will be titled Tha Carter III: Tha Rebirth. Tha Rebirth is expected to drop later this year.

Seeing is Believing 10/30: New Lil Wayne, T-Pain & Akon Vids!
Pardon my absence yesterday and pretty much all day today. I've been crazy busy on my corporate grind. I'm back with some new vids from Weezy, T-Pain & Dj Khaled, and Akon which features Jeezy and Wayne.
Lil Wayne feat. Bobby Valentino - Mrs. Officer/Comfortable
New single off the double platinum Carter III. Instead of the appearance from Kidd Kidd on "Mrs. Officer", the video switches to the Babyface assisted "Comfortable". Recently Wayne decided to re-release Tha Carter III with all new material, but there is no word on when it will be released.
T-Pain & DJ Khaled - Karaoke
Third video for Pain's Thr33 Ringz album. From what I've heard so far the joints are solid. This video features T-Pain at a Karaoke filled with old heads, and Khaled spazzin' acting a fool. Thr33 Ringz will be in stores November 11th.
Akon feat. Young Jeezy & Lil Wayne - I'm So Paid
First single off Akon's upcoming Freedom album. "I'm So Paid" features Jeezy and Lil Wayne's hundredth feature. Freedom drops November 25th, a week after fellow Konvict Muzik labelmate T-Pain.

News: Rick Ross Says Here I Am, Admits His Past x Nas, Face, & Cube Rumored to Form a Trio x Lil Wayne Still Grindin'
Rick Ross Finally Admits he was a Correctional Officer
A couple of months ago, Rick Ross had the internet going nuts. Not over new music, over rumors about his past profession as an correctional officer. Images began to surface the net of him on the job and eventually turned into a huge photoshop joke. The Boss recently spoke with a magazine and admitted it was him in a photo when asked if it was him. In Ross' defense, he said "I never tried to hide my past. I put my name inside my cds. My company has my SS#. I could've put a company name... I done been up and I done been down and that's what makes me what I am. I never ratted on a nigga. I never prosecuted a nigga. I never locked up a nigga, that's first and foremost. I always felt that me being the nigga that I am, I never owed a nigga an explanation... When I'm making my music and I'm talking about blow, it's because I did it. When I say that I'm rich off cocaine, it's because i did it. Those are the street principals that apply."
He should've said that from the jump and sparred him the embarrassment. As I've said before, hip hop fans are forgiving and eventually they'll get over it. A lot of rappers get their cards pulled and are still relevant.

Scarface, Ice Cube, & Nas Rumored to Form Supergroup
Scarface's final album Emeritus is due out in December. Face stated that before he bows out the game he always dreamed of doing a collabo project with Nas, Cube, and himself. As soon as Ice Cube heard the word, he was hyped about bringing it to life. Here's what he had to say about it "I think the album would be crazy, lyrics would be sick, and Hip-Hop would love it. It’s just making that business happen, that’s the part that gets funky. I ain’t never turned down these kind of projects, they just don’t happen for whatever reasons. But I’m up for some s**t like this because I know we can make a dope record."
The only person who hasn't responded yet is Nas. It's a good chance that this will be official.

Lil' Wayne Preparing Tha Carter IV, Dedication 3 Mixtape, and T-Wayne Collabo
Hip Hop's hardest working artist is back in the lab preparing the fourth installment of Tha Carter series. In addition to the Carter series, he's also dropping the third disk of the highly popular mixtape series, The Dedication with Dj Drama. The "T-Wayne" project with Lil' Wayne & T-Pain was announced during the summer, and it is now in the works. T-Wayne has three or four untitled tracks that are already completed. Tha Carter IV and T-Wayne "He Rap, He Sang" will both be out in 2009.

It's So Cooold In The D
I dont know why I'm posting this so late, but it's been stuck in my head for a minute. I know you're thinkin' too bad for me. It's supposed to be a serious track but I couldn't help but laugh at this.

Polls Is Talkin': The Official Song of the Summer Is...

As we say goodbye to Summer of '08, its only right that we highlight the song of the summer. Based on a poll right here on Hip Hop A.D., readers had to vote for the official summer anthem. With a million and one rappers using the instrumental, crazy radio and video spins, a album selling "a milli" in one week, its only obvious that Lil Wayne's "A Milli" is the official summer banger. Here are the top 5 summer songs based off the poll results:
1. Lil' Wayne - A Milli
2. Young Jeezy feat. Kanye West - Put On
3. Nas - Hero
4. DJ Khaled feat. Various Artists - Out Here Grindin'
5. Ace Hood feat. Rick Ross - Cash Flow

Dope or Nope 8/27: New Gym Class Heroes featuring Lil Wayne!
Not as sick as "Viva La White Girl Remix", but still a decent song. This track will not be sewed onto The Quilt, Gym Class Heroes new album that drops Sept. 9th.
Takin' Em Back! - 8/27
I was watching Lil Wayne's World on Fuse TV, which was an hour show dedicated to Lil Wayne videos. They kicked off the show with Lil Wayne's debut single "Tha Block Is Hot" which made me post this up in today's throwback joint. You can definitely see how Weezy evolved from his first joint.
Lil Wayne - Tha Block is Hot
